"Debra R::: NOT digging this. Why? Because the tables for the NYCC artist alley are WAY too expensive for those of us coming from the Anime Festival side." ((Something I feel the most))
"Julio F::: NYAF was cheaper and better for the Anime related fan community. Everything was less expensive from the tickets, to the booth items, signings, everything. NYCCC is nice and all, I go to both, but together it's horrible. It was crammed in 2011, badly crammed. Booths were hard to get to and finding people was hard also. I want space, beautiful glorious space for all 3 days. I want to be comfortable when I walk around, not shoulder to shoulder. Go back to being a separate convention please? I would pay more for a ticket if I had to." ((OMG the space there was none))
"Julio F:::What's the problem becoming your own festival again?
I would rather a long story post detailing why you people can't hold your own convention?
Have you people not read that, at what I believe, most of your fans have been asking?" ((I will like to have a separate big anime event like boston for NYC))
"Trevor T::: > First, I want to thank all of you for your thoughts, likes, feedback and support over the last few years
> People complaining about nyaf & nycc being in 1 place for 2 years.
> con still 70% nycc 30% nyaf.
Oh you funny, you so funny..." (( I only mind of it because of the raised price. you raised the table prices to get bad location?))
"Mystra B::: this is pretty bad imo and rather more glad now that i can't make it this year. NYAF was fun to go to until they incorporated it into NYCC. i get the money issues and making things easier in having it combined but since this occurred the anime portion of the Con has gotten progressively downplayed and stagnated. this complete integration will completely overwhelm the already understated anime." (( Im hardly making it myself))
"Emmanuel R::: Ever since the NYCC has taken the NYAF "under its umbrella" all of the anime fans have had to sit on the side as it became more about American comics than it has about anime. The NYAF has been shunned into little corners of the exhibit floor with more shows based on comics and less to do with anime. People go to NYAF because they enjoy Anime and Japanese culture and animation. Its nice to be able to attend an anime festival in my state since i'm unable to attend Otakon and Anime Boston, REAL ANIME FESTIVALS. NYAF has been declining ever since the NYCC has merged with it. And i disapprove of this.....greatly... The Masquerade is now GONE from the NYAF/NYCC , for daily costume contests? Thats terrible honestly.....the Masquerade was and is a great event that we (fans) all looked forward to during the show. Ever since the NYAF has been taken under NYCC's wing all of our tickets and etc have been branded with NYCC - and NYAF has been nowhere in sight.
As a customer that has attended every NYAF, i can say that NYCC is the worst thing to ever happen to it." ((agreed, I remember when it was just plain fun))
"Zack N::: Essentially no masquerade, no low cost option for artists, essentially, no more NYAF.
"Ani R:: unbelievable. As someone who start going to NYAF ever since its grand opening, it's tragic to see how it disintegrates throughout the past three years. It's like seeing it being eaten up piece by piece.
How can the staff just ignore the complains of so many anime fans. We are just not important enough comparing to your comic fans? Or is it because there isn't enough of us to generate a nice, juicy income for you comparing to the comic ones. It is extremely sad that, New York, one of the most vibrant city (if not the most) on the east coast doesn't have a decent anime convention.
Just do a little research you would know that anime fans and comic fans don't belong together. Therefore, how will grouping them together ever work? I think this is just a scam to lure the anime fans in, then throw us into the comic pool. There will be so little anime content (way less than last year >.> which was already puny) cause this year I doubt there will even be any anime related artist alley table.
As an artist I can totally see how unfair this table system is. Why do we, amateur artists who make anime illustrations, prints, and small crafts, have to bare the same cost as those professional comic artists who publish their own books. Not to mention they now can enjoy this vast number of fans invited by the NYCC as the main guests, while we can have to see anime fans decreasing year by year due to the poor choices of the staffs. What makes you think artists like us can even the enormous cost for the table by selling things that's now not desired by the majority of the participants who come to buy super hero related merchandises.
=_=... I was right, NYAF died. R.I.P" (( you couldn't even find the NYAF properly ))
"Bo L:: Ahahah, NYC one of the most populated multi cultural cities in the world doesnt even have an anime convention anymore. How depressing. And yet anime fans/artists and cosplayers are looked down upon when we stepped through the halls of the javitz center as if we're some sort of terrible plague. How wonderful. Are you sure this isn't a huge apology disguised as good news? And as an artist, its a huge disappointment i can't even sell and display my artwork in my own home city... well of course, without paying 500 dollars while being told how fanart and having displays to show my work is looked down upon. Yep..." ((NYC can't have everything I guess))"
Finally my post ...I hate funerals
Money money money.
Saying it more than once makes it sound unreal. Money, money money money. Its important. Well not for all lets say for these fans. If they raised the price of the tables and tickets and booth yet kept the same NYAF before the NYCC....I think there won't be much disappointment. As long as you put that money to good use like better space, organization, events merchandise and idk celebs?
To be honest I went for the fun and the table. The merchandise and booths was just extra. The cosplay was all so I will not complain of much of the small space and celebrities and booth or what have you. Don't mean it should go cause others love the panels and festive activities. But the price went up for the table and tickets , though you had an extra con to go to. Didn't complain there much even when NYAF was put to the side. So the price went up again, yet the festival got more smaller along with the artist alley in the corner.
-Yes the one Im paying more for.
-Uh huh and the space is small there as well.
-Oh Next year is going to be better?
-What? You can't sell what? Why?........You have to have requirements now?
-So I have to be published and professional?
-But I'm not in it to be professional this was just for fun....... Yeah I'm done lets go out of state.
one day its for 50$....One, for one con now? its a bad rank taste in my mouth. Look what reed pop did to that other comic cons. Its started out like this then the comics (not even manga and anime) was pushed aside and the hollywood came in and took over. I mean think of it, last year there was so much about movies and hollywood. There was a car give away for a horrible movie as well. So guess what , NYC meets hollywood right? Just some previews of up coming ones and panels talking to the stars and hey the TV crew is here. Oh and now only professionals and press are allowed in to do the reviews. yeah I'm not wasting my time.
I was going for one day this year only because of my cosplay and to say goodbye. I do have enough money for the everything but why? really why spend that? every time I go I complain now. Its getting crowded and now NYAF don't exist. Also met of all my BF can't come cause of work and I don't even have inspiration to go and even cosplay or finish it. Right now I'm excited for boston and the labor day parade and even a drivers license to travel to other cons. I can just take my saved money and get a damn iPhone and hang out where I haven't in NY.
This year I may not go at all, scratch that though I won't go, even to say goodbye.
Better yet my saved money can go for smaller cons where the price of a table is extremely cheap. I would go to NYCC if it just started so, but since it killed of the NYAF I see it as a murderer now, or whoever runs it...Dont even want to mention the mans name. I forgot, the lines to get into the con even when you have a ticket, the crowded space and finishing in one day for one con now is 50$ for one day.
Hey but you know what, I'm not even mad about it and I don't even know why, I should be. Maybe cause they prepared us for it or maybe cause I know I have other options its just for me to get off my ass and get my drivers license. I have 2 cars that can be lent to me yet I just don't want to get my license....true Newyorker here.
Hey at least I went to one con. And good things are happening that I can't believe and my summer is not wasted at all, and things can only get better.
In other news one friday this week I'm meeting up with a japanese gal (gyaru) who came to join with us NYC gals (gyarus). And we are going to show her new york starting from queens.
This is my first group meeting with the gals on NYC and I'm so excited ^o^, first time going to queens on the train. I usually go for west indian food.
